Mom and I were lucky to find a parking place at 11:30 in the parking lot for Stauffer’s Cafe and Pie Shoppe. Stauffer’s as busy as ever, but there were still a few tables available. Their staff is great at keeping tables cleared and making sure customers are treated right.

Stauffer’s menu is packed with the types of tasty food Mom used to make when I was growing up. They are also well known for their incredible pies!

Mom and I go on our weekly excursions to eat lunch, shop, get groceries, plus take care of her miscellaneous needs. It’s always a fun time and we have a lot of laughs. We look forward to trying out different restaurants as often as possible. Some have been good and then there are others. We could write a book.

Stauffer’s “secret formula” for success is way too obvious for those that get it. Others appreciate Stauffer’s too. The majority of their seasoned customers seem to be loyal and happy. They know why they are there. That “secret formula” keeps bringing them back. Stauffer’s has it dialed in.

It’s amazing how many restaurants are struggling these days when the “secret formula” for success is so apparent. In fairness, many get it in their way. It typically comes down to quality food and genuine service; food that tastes great and a staff that does not just smile as they try to say cute things to get bigger tips.

There are “secret formulas” everywhere in life. Coach Scott Frost understands the “secret formula” and plans to bring it back to Nebraska. He learned it from working around some of the greatest coaches in football, which of course includes Tom Osborne, who used the “secret formula” to put Husker football on the map.

Scott Frost will have some incredible challenges this year since some experts feel the Huskers will have the second-toughest schedule in the nation. True fans will understand this challenge and give him time to turn around the football program. Despite the challenges, Scott Frost is a fierce competitor that gives our Husker nation new hope as he unveils his own “secret formula.” Thanks, Scott, for coming back home. We needed you!

A writer that understands his “secret formula” is John Rosemond, who writes parenting advice columns that are in the Lincoln Journal Star. His “secret formula” explains how raising children properly requires toughness and accountability. He also believes sports programs should be run by children, not adults that have an agenda. These children are forced to learn how to get along with others and gain important life skills.

It’s kind of like what I learned in country school on the playground. The younger kids were taught by the older kids. We were taught to play fair. Teachers back then were also disciplinarians that had parent support. There were no school shootings by poorly raised brats because the “secret formula” was our code.

“Secret formulas” are just trying to do all the right things for all the right reasons. It requires stepping back from the rat race and taking the time to understand we are the product of how we live our lives. Once we do that we can make improvements.

So, what are those “secret formulas” that will make our lives better? A good start is surrounding ourselves with the right people. Henry Ford believed, “my best friend is the one who brings out the best in me.” Who brings out the best in you? Thank them and make sure they understand how much you appreciate them!

There are also “secret formulas” in life that improve your health. Since this is a plumbing advice column, let’s discuss my favorite plumbing improvement. It’s Reverse Osmosis (R.O.) drinking water. The R.O. water process removes almost 30 harmful contaminants from your drinking water. Why drink from plastic water bottles that cause Bisphenol A exposure, which are endocrine disruptors that alter the function of the endocrine system? We offer superb water filtration systems for your home that are guaranteed to keep your drinking water clean. Contact us today to learn more.

Why haul bottled water and throw away plastic bottles that harm our environment? The R.O. unit can be installed below the kitchen sink with a single lever dispensing faucet on the sink or counter. Clearer water and ice cubes tell the story.

My favorite “secret formulas” protect our health with quality drinking water and properly filtered air for our lungs. Those “secret formulas” also include taking time to appreciate special people around me. Thank you!
