When Should You Consider AC Filter Replacement?
To be honest, if you’re noticing poor air quality in your home, you might already have a damaged air conditioning unit. Although you’re unlikely to notice a change in air quality over time due to a dirty air filter, even with minor changes, you, your family, and your AC unit could be suffering. Here are some signs it is time to replace it:
- Dust and dirt around air vents- At this point, your filter is probably full of contaminants and dirt. It’s not doing its job of actually filtering these particles from your air
- Increasing electric bills- If your home’s energy consumption hasn’t changed and your energy bill is increasing at a quick rate, a dirty filter could be the cause. When a filter is full of debris, the AC unit works much harder to keep your home cool
- Allergies and asthma are worsening- Repeated doctor’s visits might not be able to solve your respiratory issues. These problems could be related to the air quality in your home which is linked to having a clean air filter
- Dirty or damaged filters- every now and then, take a look at your air filter. If it’s filthy or damaged looking, it is definitely time for a new one
How Often Should the Air Filter be Changed?
We recommend to check or change filters every 30-60 days. The frequency an air filter needs to be changed depends on whether or not there are pets in the household, the time of year, whether or not the windows are kept open, and whether or not residents suffer from allergies.
Even in an otherwise immaculate home, pets and humans leave dander, hair, fur, and stir up any bit of dust. Make sure to have your filter changed regularly to make sure you're not breathing in dust, allergens and other contaminants.
